Yet another vintage is over and while it would be nice to put our feet up and relax until the spring….. there is always more to do! Autumn is a time of preparation for the winter and the vines need to lay down carbohydrate stores ready for next season. To help put them to bed, we are focusing on the roots and soil to ensure our vines are fed well before they go to sleep.

We are sowing oats between the vine rows which puts valuable nutrients back into the soil, as well as ensuring the soil stays nicely aerated. We are also feeding our huge worm population with lots of organic material and laying down more mulch under the vines to trap the autumn rains in the soil. This is a beautiful time of year to be working in the vineyard, watching as the autumn colours sweep across the property 🙂
