Late spring, and the delicate lacewing insects are elegantly flying through the air, watching a kookaburra eyeing off his molluscky snack.
Or maybe it’s earlier in the season, and the vines are gently waking from their winter dormancy.
Perhaps we’re watching when baby grapes hit that milestone proportion of “pea size”; or the magnificence of colour change when bunches hit “veraison”; or the full-on production that is harvest.
“Happenings on the Hill” is our quarterly newsletter; it’s a way of sharing the excitement and romance that colour farming. It’s a cleaner, longer-lasting way of feeling our sandy clay loam between your toes.
As well as sharing in the seasonal goings on, “Happenings on the Hill” is also informative and educational. Ever smiled politely while wondering what “malo” was? Or “must” (other than something your mum told you)? And what is the ever-so-romantically named “EL-27”?
Each issue is published seasonally and has 5 main segments:
1. Whispers from the Winery — a chat with our winemaker, Scott, about what’s been happening in the winery and how barrel contents are progressing, including technical tit-bits on wine making, plus a little about our current releases.
2. Cellar Door — our cellar door manager, Jeanette, will give you a quick run down on what’s drinking well and what marketing specials we have.
3. Heard on the Grapevine — what’s been happening in the vineyard. Robyn will take you through seasonal occurrences, what stage the grapes are at, how they’re looking, what’s happening generally in the industry, how and why she’s pruned a certain way … or maybe she’s just nodded off in the front of the fire in winter…
4. Events — always something going on!
5. Wine - Reviews and "specials"
“Happenings on the Hill" is filled with the latest developments and events at the vineyard and the cellar door.
