Helen’s Hill 2020 Winemaker's Reserve Shiraz

The Helen's Hill 2020 Winemakers Reserve Shiraz is a testament to our dedication to crafting exceptional wines. Made from a select batch of the year’s best-performing vines, this Shiraz underwent extended skin contact and time in barrel, resulting in a wine of remarkable depth, length, and complexity. Its rich palate reveals layers of dark plum, blackberry, and subtle hints of black pepper and spice, with fine-grained tannins providing structure and elegance. With a 15-year cellar life, this wine promises to evolve beautifully, rewarding those who choose to age it. For a perfect pairing, enjoy this Shiraz with hearty dishes like slow-cooked lamb shanks, grilled venison, or a rich beef stew, enhancing its full-bodied character and nuanced flavours.

Deep crimson with a dark violet core, the 2020 Winemaker’s Reserve Shiraz opens with layers of blackberry, black cherry, and plum, underpinned by notes of cracked pepper, dark chocolate, and subtle spice. The palate is plush and concentrated, yet finely balanced — ripe fruit framed by elegant tannins and refined oak. French oak puncheons add lift and texture, leading to a long, velvety finish that carries both strength and finesse.

The 2020 vintage delivered Shiraz fruit of outstanding richness and structure — a rare combination in the Yarra Valley. From this harvest, just two barrels were chosen as the finest expression of the year. Each parcel was fermented separately and matured for 18 months in French oak puncheons, 50 per cent new and the remainder seasoned. The extended maturation allowed the wine to develop depth, complexity, and polish, while preserving its vibrant fruit core and hallmark cool-climate elegance.

This is a wine made for generous food and generous company. Perfect with slow-cooked beef cheek, lamb shanks, or a charcoal-grilled ribeye. It also pairs beautifully with hearty vegetarian dishes like smoky eggplant or mushroom and truffle pasta. Pour a glass, settle in, and let the wine tell the story of a truly extraordinary Yarra vintage.
