Helen's Hill 2022 'Project 943' SCR Pinot Noir

The Helen's Hill 2022 Project 943 Single Clone Pinot Noir marks an exciting milestone as the first production of this unique 943 clone in Victoria. Originally gaining a devoted following in the cool-climate regions of the United States, this clone thrives in our Yarra Valley vineyard, bringing forth intensely expressive aromatics and an alluring palate. Robust flavours of dark cherry and bramble are complemented by subtle undertones of truffle and spice, creating a layered and captivating experience. Perfectly suited to food pairings, this Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with mushroom risotto, pork belly, or a charcuterie plate, enhancing its complexity and depth.

Brilliant ruby in colour, Project 943 opens with lifted aromas of wild strawberry, red cherry, and pomegranate, laced with rose petal and subtle spice. The palate is fine-boned and elegant, showcasing 943’s hallmark concentration — bright red fruits, supple tannins, and a silky texture that seems to glide endlessly. Hints of forest floor and subtle oak spice add depth without distraction. The finish is long, pure, and beautifully balanced, capturing everything we love about this extraordinary clone.

Grown exclusively from Dijon Clone 943 vines on our estate, this wine reflects our belief that small details make the biggest difference. The fruit was hand-picked and fermented in small open-top fermenters, encouraging gentle extraction and aromatic precision. Following fermentation, the wine was aged for 18 months in French oak — a careful balance of new and seasoned barrels — to add structure, texture, and polish while keeping the clone’s energy at the centre. Clone 943 is prized for its naturally small berries, thick skins, and tight bunches, which deliver exceptional colour, intensity, and fine tannin — all on vivid display here.

Project 943 is a refined yet generous Pinot Noir that shines with dishes of similar elegance: roast duck, grilled salmon, mushroom risotto, or truffle-infused pasta. It also pairs beautifully with soft cheeses and good company. It’s a wine that rewards attention — and conversation — with every glass.
