Helen's Hill 2021 Hill Top Syrah

The 2021 Helen's Hill Hilltop Syrah showcases a cooler-climate style, delivering refined elegance with softer, approachable tannins. This Syrah offers aromas of dark berries, violet, and a subtle smokiness, complemented by hints of black pepper and savoury spice. On the palate, it’s smooth and well-balanced, with a touch of minerality and a lingering, silky finish. Ideal pairings include charcoal-grilled meats, smoky eggplant, or BBQ lamb, allowing the wine's rich flavours to shine. With a promising cellaring potential, the 2021 Hilltop Syrah is crafted for both immediate enjoyment and further development in the bottle. Drink now until 2032.

Deep, inky purple in the glass, Hilltop Syrah opens with aromas of blackberry, black cherry, and violet, followed by hints of cracked pepper and subtle smokiness. The palate is plush yet poised, with dark fruit at its core and fine, savoury tannins that build structure and length. French oak adds lift and texture without overshadowing the fruit, while the finish glides long, smooth, and effortlessly elegant.

Shiraz fruit from our elevated Hilltop block was fermented in small batches to preserve aromatics and freshness. After fermentation, the wine was transferred to French oak puncheons — larger barrels that lend a more restrained influence — where it matured for 18 months. This slow, gentle ageing deepens complexity while keeping the wine balanced, supple, and unmistakably Syrah in style.

Hilltop Syrah is built for rich, smoky, and savoury dishes: charcoal-grilled lamb cutlets, beef rump, or mushroom ragù over fresh pasta. It also pairs beautifully with smoky eggplant, roast duck, or aged cheeses. Pour a glass as the sun goes down — it’s a wine that’s just as comfortable by the barbecue as it is by the fire.
